BLASST Benchmarking Interactive Tool (B-BIT)

What is it?

B-BIT is a self-assessment evaluation tool that allows you to benchmark against the BLASST Sessional Staff Standards.

There are four ways to work with this tool – at the level of:

1. Institutional
2. Faculty or School
3. Departments, unit and subject convenors
4. Individual sessional staff member

Who can use it?

Anyone working as a sessional teacher or with sessional teachers in higher education can use the B-BIT. People who support and manage sessional staff including departmental or faculty administrators, unit or subject convenors, heads of schools, Human Resources staff, will also find working through the B-BIT useful.

In addition to providing benchmark data, this tool can be used to support your learning about sessional staff standards.

You can select which level you wish to work through.

Deciding on a benchmarking level

Need help deciding on a level?

Working with B-BIT at the Institutional level is suitable if you are working at a whole–of-organisation level and your focus includes the role and contribution of sessional staff to the organisation
and/or
you wish to obtain benchmarking data on sessional staff standards in your organisation.
Those working in Human Resources, University Executive, Senior Management or as professional and academic leaders and managers will find this level useful

Working with B-BIT at the Faculty level* is suitable if you are working in or with a faculty and have responsibility for the management, support, recruitment, administration or professional development of sessional staff
and/or
you wish to obtain benchmarking data on sessional staff standards in your faculty.
*This may also be referred to as School or Division level.

Working with B-BIT at the Department level* is suitable if you are working in or with a department and have responsibility for the management, support, recruitment, administration or professional development of sessional staff
and/or
you wish to obtain benchmarking data on sessional staff standards in your department.
*This level may also be relevant to Unit Convenors, Subject Coordinators, Program Leaders or Directors, Research Centres.

Working with B-BIT at the Individual Sessional Staff member level is suitable if you are an academic sessional staff member at an institution
and/or
you wish to self-evaluate against the sessional staff standards.
